Week Three

Image
By the third week we were starting to get into a little bit of a routine. Adaline was on a two hour time schedule and was drinking at least three ounces of formula at a time. Naturally, we had or good days and our bad days, but we were on our path. Addie also had her newborn photos done that weekend (May 20th), there was a little sticker shock (seriously, her photos cost more than our wedding photos), but after seeing how amazing her photographer was with her and how wonderful her pictures turned out I can honestly say they were worth every penny. Here are a few: The process of her photoshoot was pretty amazing. It did take over four hours (another reason why I can see it costs what it does), but watching Noelle with Addie was like watching a baby whisperer. I have to confess I was observing her quite intently so I could learn some of her tricks. Noelle was also very sweet and wonderful to work with in general that we plan on making her our family photographer

Rusty had returned to work when Adaline was a week old, it was so helpful to have him around during that first week and it only further proved my belief that our paternity-leave system here in America is a joke. However, we continued on. That week was full of surprises; Thursday night, Addie's diaper caught her umbilical chord stump and ended up pulling it off (from what the doctor said earlier that day it was close to falling off), I freaked out and Addie looked at me with quite the look but seemed unfazed. Saturday morning I noticed a little white in Addie's mouth, at first I thought it was clumps of formula and tried to gently wipe them away--but when they wouldn't come off I knew what it was; thrush. By that evening what was little white dots became something far more as the thrush began to thrive and take over her mouth. By about 7:45 that night with a completely white mouth that smelled of yeast; I knew I had to take her in, but of course the only place open was the

After spending 40 weeks in the womb and two days in the hospital, Adaline was cleared to go home. The first day home was rocky as Adaline spent a great deal of time crying; to the point that after returning home and multiple attempts of breastfeeding only to be met with a screaming infant I made formula. It was amazing how after receiving a proper amount of food Adaline quieted down and quickly got some much needed sleep. Until that point I suspected that she was not getting enough and even voiced my concern at the hospital, but since I am a first time mom (and I am sure they hear that a lot) I was not taken seriously--so when I made the first batch of formula and Addie became immediately calm I felt justified and concerned all at the same time. After that Adaline spent a great deal of time sleeping, but we discovered it needed to be on one of us to be the most affective. She had her first check up the following Monday she weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces, she had lost a little weigh
